Jordan Love watched the Green Bay Packers' first training camp practice from the sidelines as he awaits a new contract.

Love's absence increases the urgency to get his extension finalized soon. General manager Brian Gutekunst believes they are "close" and an agreement is imminent, with the expectation that it gets done this week.

This is the training camp distraction the Packers wanted to avoid, but it won't become a full-on concern if they can shake hands on a new contract in the coming days.

Gutekunst has seen enough from Love's dazzling display at the backend of last season to hand him the keys to the offense long-term. He is the Packers' future. But how much will he earn in this incoming extension? Adam Schefter provided some insight.

Adam Schefter believes Packers could make Jordan Love the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history

The two sides haven't yet reached an agreement despite negotiating for months. So, what will it take for Love to sign on the dotted line? In an interview with the Pat McAfee Show, ESPN's Adam Schefter made a bold prediction.

"I think by the end of the week, my guess would be that Jordan Love will have a new contract that probably makes him one of the, if not the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history," Schefter told McAfee.

Well, there we go.

It would seem any discussion of Love signing a deal worth $50 million per year is over. His new contract will be in the ballpark of the $55 million salary that Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence are earning. He could reset the market by landing a deal worth $56 million or more.

The Packers are banking on Love building on his MVP form from last year. Also, they don't have much choice. Several teams would jump at the chance to sign Love, and with only a year remaining on his contract, the Packers can't give them that chance.

A new deal is coming, and based on Schefter's report, we can expect Love to earn around $55 million per year, potentially more.
