Bears fans are already turning on potential Justin Fields replacement after Packers tweet
The Green Bay Packers were supposed to be the NFC North team with quarterback uncertainty. At least, that's what Chicago Bears fans said.
Instead, Jordan Love finished second in the NFL with 32 touchdown passes, leading the Packers into the playoffs. It's the Bears with a quarterback decision to make.
Chicago must decide whether to move forward with Justin Fields or to draft his replacement first overall with the pick it received from the Carolina Panthers. USC's Caleb Williams is projected to go first in the 2024 NFL Draft and could replace Fields in Chicago.
But some Bears fans have already turned on him.
Bears fans don't want to draft Caleb Williams after his tweet about Packers
It all comes from a post on X (formerly Twitter) involving Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander. Alexander crashed a local TV report outside Lambeau Field, saying: "I'm just here to tell you the Pack is back."
WBAY-TV reporter Emily Roberts didn't realize it was Alexander, responding: "We heard it from a fan right here, the Pack is back."
Williams responded to the post on X.
Many Bears fans didn't appreciate the post. Less than a day earlier, the Packers beat the Bears for the 10th time in a row, clinching a playoff berth.
With Williams potentially on his way to Chicago with the first overall pick, some Bears fans aren't too pleased and don't want their team to draft him.
Isn't it perfect?
The Bears have a tough choice, but many of their fans want to stick with Fields. On Monday, Bears fans posted signs near Halas Hall with a message to the team to keep Fields.
The rest of the NFC North is probably OK with that, too. There's no doubt Fields has improved this season, but he still has a lot to prove. Fields threw 16 touchdown passes and nine interceptions with an 86.3 rating in 13 games. He rushed for four touchdowns.
Fields played three fewer games than Jordan Love but had exactly half the number of touchdown passes, only two fewer interceptions, and the same number of rushing touchdowns. Fields is in year three.
Caleb Williams could become the franchise quarterback the Bears desperately need. He threw 72 touchdown passes and only 10 interceptions in his final two seasons at USC.
Passing on Williams would be a bold move, but that's the direction many Bears fans want their team to go in.
