To begin last season, the Dallas Cowboys thought they were going to see the tandem of Trevon Diggs and Stephon Gilmore emerge as one of the league's top cornerback duos. Unfortunately, Diggs went down with a season-ending injury during practice on September 21.
That left Gilmore as the team's de facto no. 1 cornerback, but the Cowboys had no idea they were going to see DaRon Bland burst onto the scene and ultimately earn All Pro honors. While Bland had an unforgettable season, Gilmore was still on his side, doing his thing.
The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year continued to show why he can continue being a strong, effective starter in this league even at his age. He was as dependable as they come, missing zero games due to injury, which should speak to Packer fans fed up with Stokes' injury issues.
Gilmore may not be a top-10 cornerback at this stage of his career, but if he were to be a team's CB2 and play alongside a guy like Jaire Alexander, he'd be the perfect fit. Gilmore still has plenty of football left in him, and the Packers should give him a look. Spotrac has his next contract sitting at $11 million annually, which isn't too bad at all.
