Former Bears quarterback thinks Packers should sit Jordan Love vs. Vikings

Of course he would say this...

Since Jordan Love went down with an MCL injury in Week 1, the Green Bay Packers have trotted out newly-acquired backup quarterback Malik Willis in two-straight games. To no one's surprise, head coach Matt LaFleur has had Willis and the offense prepared with stout game plans.

Willis has gone 2-0 as a starter and has done more than enough to keep the Packers in the win column.

Meanwhile, all signs point to Love making his return in Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings; the Packers' first NFC North matchup of the season.

With Love making progress, fans are looking forward to hearing some sort of news stating Love's impending status for the game, and in all likelihood, the starter should make his return to the field after missing just a pair of games.

Not everybody thinks Love should return so soon, though.

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Chase Daniel, now turned analyst, hosts the Scoop City podcast with NFL insider Dianna Russini, and the two of them discussed this issue on Tuesday's edition of the show.

Russini believes Love will make his return in Week 4, but Daniel doesn't quite agree and offers a former player's perspective:

"I don't think you should put him out there again based on the way Malik Willis is playing," Daniel said.

Now, on one hand, this is a former Bears quarterback making such a claim. However, you've got to give Daniel credit for expounding on his take here.

"Give him (Love) one more week ... the second Jordan Love gets hit on that knee, it's going to start aching again."

It's tough to admit, but Daniel does make a good point.

Packers should be cautious with Jordan Love vs. Brian Flores' defense

While most still assume Love is going to make his return against the Vikings in Week 4, there is some validity to what Daniel was alluding to. He went on to talk about Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, noting that the Minnesota defense has been no joke thus far.

The Vikings are a blitz-happy team under Flores, no doubt. Minnesota leads the league with 16 sacks at the moment, as well, so there is absolutely reason for LaFleur and the medical staff to be careful.

LaFleur will likely work up a game plan that does one of a couple things. First off, getting the ball out of Love's hands quickly is going to be priority number one in the passing attack. Second, adding more than just a five-man protection agains that Vikings front will also be necessary.

There's no reason to doubt LaFleur's capability to protect Love by adjusting the game plan a bit against such a dangerous defense, so fans shouldn't worry. If Love is healthy, for the most part, he'll be out there, and LaFleur is going to tailor the offense around his current abilities.

As for Daniel, one still can't help but wonder if that opinion came from anywhere other than a former Bear's perspective.
