Full list of Packers players who aren't playing vs. Broncos in preseason Week 2
During the preseason, teams don't have to officially announce a list of inactives. However, ahead of last week's opener, the Green Bay Packers listed the players who wouldn't feature. We can expect the same tonight against the Denver Broncos.
Head coach Matt LaFleur has already revealed that most of the starters won't play, including Jordan Love.
Having already got important reps against the Broncos during Friday's joint practice, LaFleur doesn't feel the need to also play the starters in the preseason game. It allows more time to resume the other positional battles, including at backup quarterback. Sean Clifford is expected to start for the Packers, and he should get some playing time against the Broncos' starting defense.
It will be interesting to see how LaFleur distributes the snaps at quarterback. Clifford remains the frontrunner for the backup job but faces increasing pressure from rookie Michael Pratt, who made an impressive start to the preseason. Green Bay wants to get a good look at both players, with Pratt still very much in the mix to win the No. 2 job.
Which Packers players aren't playing in Preseason Week 2 vs. Broncos?
In a pregame interview, head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that most of the Packers' starters will not play. Here is the full list:
We may not see the Packers' starters again in the preseason. They will take part in another joint practice next week against the Baltimore Ravens. The starters will get important reps in the practice session, so LaFleur could decide to hold them out of the preseason game, as he is tonight against Denver.
It's never a bad idea to sit the starters. Packers fans will remember Jordy Nelson's season-ending injury in a preseason game with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2015. Injuries can happen at any time, but it makes sense to have caution in the preseason.
