Ian Rapoport reveals Jordan Love's status for Packers' game vs. Titans in Week 3
The Green Bay Packers' decision to promote Sean Clifford to the gameday roster provided a big clue, and now NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has confirmed it.
Per Rapoport, Jordan Love will not play in the Packers' game against the Tennessee Titans in Week 3. Malik Willis will get the start against the team that traded him less than four weeks ago, with Clifford providing backup.
Green Bay kept the decision under wraps, but it would seem Love isn't quite ready to make his return despite practicing all week. The Packers must find a way to win without Love for the second game in a row, although it will be a more challenging task than their victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Rapoport notes that Love hasn't been officially ruled out, but the Packers plan to start Willis in Tennessee.
Jordan Love reportedly won't play in Packers' Week 3 game vs. Titans
While Love isn't expected to play against the Titans, Packers fans should be positive. No matter what happens on Sunday against Tennessee, Love's return is nearing. He practiced each day this week and has made great progress. Next week, the Packers get the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field, which is a far more important game. It will give Love three full weeks to recover before making his potential return for a divisional game.
Green Bay found a way to win last week, which eases the pressure to get a victory on Sunday. While beating Tennessee to go to 2-1 would be perfect, falling to 1-2 is far less significant than an 0-3 start.
Nothing is guaranteed, including Love returning next week against the Vikings, but it seems a realistic scenario and would fall into the initial three-to-six-week timeline.
In the meantime, Willis gets the start against his former team. He played down the revenge game narrative but has the chance to prove the Titans wrong for giving up on him.
The Packers won with Willis last week. They get the chance to do it again in Week 3.
