It took Malik Willis 1 drive to make Titans regret trading him to Packers
Wow. Just wow.
Less than four weeks ago, the Tennessee Titans traded Malik Willis to the Green Bay Packers for a seventh-round pick. Willis couldn't beat Mason Rudolph for the Titans' backup quarterback job.
He got the start in place of an injured Jordan Love in Week 3 and instantly made the Titans regret the trade. Willis hit two 30-yard completions to Jayden Reed and Christian Watson before rushing for a five-yard touchdown.
Talk about making a statement.
Packers make the perfect start vs. Titans thanks to Malik Willis
The Packers needed just six plays to find the end zone. Willis completed two of three passes for 60 yards and ran in a touchdown. Green Bay couldn't have dreamed of a better start.
Matt LaFleur dialed up the perfect play call to open the game. The Packers ran a play reminiscent to the creative Josh Jacobs rushes last week. Instead, Willis kept the ball and hit a wide-open Reed for 30 yards. It set the tone.
Willis then hit Watson for 30 more yards.
It's only one drive, and the Packers would have scripted this one.
But Willis deserves a ton of credit for his execution, building on an impressive first start last week. The Titans had the No. 1-ranked defense in the NFL entering Week 3, and they will undoubtedly adjust as the game goes on. But the Packers made the perfect start to instantly put seven points on the board, especially after Tennessee won the toss and deferred.
It's going to take another monumental effort on both sides of the ball to win the game, especially from Jeff Hafley's defense. They need to keep it low-scoring to take the pressure off of Willis and the offense.
But the former Titans quarterback looks comfortable and wasted no time making the Titans regret trading him.
