Jets are begging Packers for another blockbuster trade to help Aaron Rodgers
Several former teammates followed Aaron Rodgers to New York this offseason, but he didn't bring enough Green Bay Packers offensive linemen with him.
Despite the Jets' best efforts to build a dominant offense around Rodgers, their offensive line has become a real problem. Connor Hughes of SNY noted that Rodgers isn't throwing much beyond 10 yards, sticking mostly to "check downs and quick passes."
Nothing can derail a Super Bowl push faster than bad offensive line play. The Jets need to do something, and the Packers can offer a solution.
The Packers have plenty of their own concerns and questions entering the season, but offensive tackle is not among them. Green Bay has an excellent starting duo of David Bakhtiari and Zach Tom, with solid backup from Yosh Nijman and Rasheed Walker. Elgton Jenkins can also play tackle if needed.
Rodgers' Jets may have to turn to his former team for some more help.
Packers should offer David Bakhtiari to Aaron Rodgers' Jets in another blockbuster trade
Just how bad is the Jets' offensive line? Well, ESPN's Rich Cimini summed it up during joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"By my count, Rodgers has been sacked six times in the last 10 dropbacks. His completions came on quick throws," writes Cimini.
Packers GM Brian Gutekunst entered the chat.
The Packers and Jets have already made one blockbuster trade this year, the deal that sent Rodgers to New York.
In doing so, the teams swapped first-rounders, costing the Jets a chance to draft offensive tackle Broderick Jones. It may prove costly, as the Jets' lack of offensive line talent seriously impacts their championship hopes.
The Packers may, again, have a solution to the Jets' problems. New York has gone full Green Bay East by bringing in Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Adrian Amos, and Billy Turner, among other former Packers. The Jets may as well make another big move to fix their offensive line.
David Bakhtiari has missed a lot of time over the past few seasons, but he is still an incredibly talented pass protector when healthy. He has also played his entire career with Rodgers, so he understands his game better than anyone.
The Jets won't find a left tackle better suited to their offense than Bakhtiari, who helped keep Rodgers upright for a decade in Green Bay.
Negotiations could become complicated as the Jets are already sending either their first- or second-round pick to the Packers for Rodgers. That makes things more challenging but not impossible. Perhaps a Bakhtiari deal could net Green Bay a 2025 draft pick or two.
There is a conversation to be had.
The Jets desperately need offensive line help. The Packers have solid tackle depth and could offload Bakhtiari's contract with only a year remaining. They have focused on getting younger this offseason, so trading Bakhtiari would be another step in that direction.
Another blockbuster trade between the Packers and Jets? It would make sense.
