1. Jordan Love

The Packers may have confidence in Jordan Love, but he needs to prove himself this season.

Green Bay reduced its risk by offering Love a one-year contract extension that included less guaranteed money than the fifth-year option. It gives the team more flexibility should it wish to make a quarterback change next offseason.

That's the worst-case scenario, of course, but it can't be ruled out. If Love struggles and the Packers win three games, they may decide to move on.

Hopefully, the opposite is true. Love makes a fast start and lands a multi-year contract extension around midseason, just as Aaron Rodgers did in 2008. That's also a possibility this year.

Sitting here in June, nobody knows. Love's performances on the practice field in the coming weeks and months will give us an indication of how the regular season may go, but we won't truly know until the real football gets underway in September.

Love is under contract for two more seasons. He has time, but not a whole lot. The Packers' overall record doesn't matter. They went 6-10 in Rodgers' first year as a starter. What's important is Love's performance this season.

He doesn't need to be perfect. He will make mistakes. But if the former first-round pick shows the potential to be the long-term starter, the Packers will likely reward him with a new deal. But it's also possible they will search for a new quarterback next offseason.

It's a huge season for Jordan Love.
