Life comes at you fast in the NFL. Three weeks ago, Malik Willis hoped to win the Tennessee Titans' backup quarterback job.

In Week 2, he threw his first career touchdown pass for the Green Bay Packers, helping his new team overcome Jordan Love's injury to defeat the Indianapolis Colts. Willis is still learning the playbook, but he executed the game plan perfectly.

The former third-round pick only threw two incompletions, completing 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. His numbers don't light up the box score, but he made the plays he needed to. When the Packers had to convert a third down, Willis made big-time throws to his receivers, or when nothing opened up, he took off and made a play with his legs.

Willis carried six times for 41 yards, giving the Colts' defense another problem to contend with.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur had to create a game plan to make Willis comfortable in an offense he is still learning, and he couldn't have been prouder of his quarterback's performance.

Matt LaFleur's postgame comments about Malik Willis will fire up Packers fans

LaFleur said he was "super proud" of Willis, who had to overcome a huge challenge to perform at such a high level.

"I don't think you guys can appreciate or even comprehend the task that Malik Willis—I mean, this guy got here three weeks ago," said LaFleur. "We still had a lot of long calls. We had shifts, motions, a ton of different run schemes. There was a lot put on his plate. For him to be able to go out there and do what he did today, I think it speaks volumes to who he is as a person and the work that he's put in."

LaFleur's system is quarterback-friendly, but as he said, there's so much to learn, from the different protections to motions and options. It takes a while to grasp.

Willis' performance goes beyond the box score. The Packers took a lot off his plate, but they needed him to make plays throughout the game. Each time, he made it happen. Willis couldn't have placed his touchdown pass to Dontayvion Wicks any better. It went only where Wicks could catch it and out of reach for the cornerback.

Later in the game, he connected with Romeo Doubs for 37 yards. Willis made plays.

The Packers may need more from their new quarterback, beginning next week against the Titans, his former team. Thanks to his performance, this team has life, with Willis proving that he can help this team win games without Love.
