Matt LaFleur's cryptic update on MarShawn Lloyd's injury is concerning

Don't expect to see the rookie running back on the practice field anytime soon.

You get an injury. You get an injury. You all get injuries.

If the Green Bay Packers picked you in the early rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft, there's a good chance you're currently on the sideline. Running back MarShawn Lloyd suffered a hamstring injury in the Packers' preseason opener, joining first-round pick Jordan Morgan, second-rounder Edgerrin Cooper, and third-rounder Ty'Ron Hopper on the injury list.

Fortunately, Morgan and Hopper returned to practice this week, but the outlook is less certiain for Lloyd.

The Packers understand how difficult hamstring injuries can be. Last season, Aaron Jones, Christian Watson, and Eric Stokes dealt with long-term issues.

They are hoping to avoid the same with Lloyd.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur provides little information on MarShawn Lloyd's status

If you were hoping for an update about Lloyd's status, head coach Matt LaFleur was in no mood to provide details.

"He will not be practicing," said LaFleur.

A reporter followed up by asking whether he meant this week or just today. LaFleur gave the same response: "He will not be practicing."

Sure, he is under no obligation to divulge the details, but he has been more forthcoming with other injuries at training camp. When Jordan Morgan got hurt, LaFleur revealed he would miss around a week. He also confirmed there were no long-term concerns when other players suffered injuries, like Jayden Reed.

LaFleur offered no such reassurance about Lloyd's injury. His blunt response is somewhat concerning, especially as it's a dreaded hamstring issue.

If Lloyd is only going to miss a practice or two, why wouldn't LaFleur have said that? It's not overly encouraging.

We can assume the rookie won't be available for this week's preseason trip to Denver.

Beyond that, who knows? We'll have to wait for LaFleur to provide more clarity, or if Lloyd isn't back in time for Week 1, the weekly injury reports.
