NFC North general managers ranked from worst to best
2. Brian Gutekunst, Green Bay Packers
Brian Gutekunst's time in Green Bay will be defined by his draft-day decision in 2020. Not only did he select Aaron Rodgers' successor, but he traded up to get him.
Now, here we are, three years later, and Jordan Love is finally ready to take the reins from the four-time MVP.
Gutekunst will forever be remembered as a genius if Love becomes the third straight Packers QB to make the Hall of Fame. If Love isn't on the Packers' roster two years from now, the decision could cost Gutekunst his job. He rolled the dice on draft night in 2020.
However, moving away from the Love pick, Gutekunst's track record is good. The Packers team he inherited in 2018 was a mess. They needed to replace aging veterans on both sides of the ball, and Gutekunst achieved this, skyrocketing the Packers to three straight 13-win seasons from 2019-21.
He brought in players like Jaire Alexander, Rashan Gary, Za'Darius Smith, Preston Smith, De'Vondre Campbell, and Adrian Amos on defense, as well as Elgton Jenkins and Christian Watson on offense.
But, then again, he also signed Jimmy Graham and Sammy Watkins and traded up for Amari Rodgers. He's made plenty of mistakes, too.
Gutekunst has shown tremendous roster-building ability, including in-season signings like Rasul Douglas. However, his Packers tenure rests on the right arm of Jordan Love.
