NFC North predictions 2023: Where will the Packers finish?
3. Chicago Bears
- Final record: 8-9
- Division record: 2-4
A significant step forward is predicted here for the Bears. A disastrous 2022 season earned Chicago the league's worst record and top pick in the NFL Draft, which it used to trade down, acquiring wide receiver DJ Moore as part of the deal.
The Bears added well on both sides of the ball.
Linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards can transform a defense that allowed more points than any other team last season.
Chicago prioritized improving Justin Fields' supporting cast, upgrading both the offensive line and receiving corps. First-round pick Darnell Wright improves the offensive line, although they will miss Teven Jenkins early in the season due to injury.
The Bears added more pass-catchers for Fields to throw to. DJ Moore gives Chicago a true WR1, while Chase Claypool, Darnell Mooney, and rookie Tyler Scott provide depth. Former Packers tight ends Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis also help the offense take a step forward.
Chicago can compete in the division this season, but it will likely remain inconsistent. The defense has more talent, but they still need more game-changers.
A much better season for the Bears, and they show promise, but it's not enough to win the NFC North title.
