NFC North quarterback depth charts ranked from worst to best
3. Detroit Lions
Jared Goff, Nate Sudfeld, Hendon Hooker, Adrian Martinez
Despite Jared Goff coming off an excellent season, the Lions don't make the top two in these rankings.
Goff threw for 4,438 yards, 29 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, and he played well. But there's no doubt he was helped by the talent surrounding him.
Detroit has one of the league's best offensive lines, a unit that allowed the second-fewest number of sacks last season. Goff also played in an offense with Pro Bowl receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, NFL rushing touchdown leader Jamaal Williams, and D'Andre Swift, and had seven games with Pro Bowl tight end T.J. Hockenson.
But Goff still deserves credit for the Lions' success.
Another reason why the Lions are third is their depth behind Goff. Rookie Hendon Hooker is recovering from a torn ACL and could miss most of his first season. In the meantime, the Lions will rely on Nate Sudfeld to step in should Goff miss time. Sudfeld is a former sixth-round pick who has been on four different teams and attempted only 37 passes in the NFL.
Hooker will eventually take the No. 2 job or even start for the Lions, but while he's out, the Lions' QB depth is a concern.
