NY Jets have already had enough of former Packers receiver Allen Lazard

It was a tough season for the New York Jets, especially for former Green Bay Packers.

Aaron Rodgers' season ended after only four snaps due to a torn Achilles. Randall Cobb finished with a career-low 39 receiving yards, while Adrian Amos was released in December.

It was also a difficult season for Allen Lazard, who signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Jets last offseason. Lazard quickly became one of Rodgers' favorite targets during their time together in Green Bay. In 2022, Lazard led the Packers in receiving with 60 catches for 788 yards and six touchdowns.

However, the former undrafted free agent managed only 311 yards and one touchdown on 23 receptions in his debut season with the Jets. Robert Saleh made him a healthy scratch in two games.

Report: Jets make former Packers receiver Allen Lazard 'available' for trade

Only one season into a four-year deal, Lazard's time in New York could be nearing an end. According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, Lazard is "available in trade talks."

It's surprising. As much as Lazard struggled last season, the hope is that he can recapture his best form once Rodgers is back in the lineup. But it sounds like the Jets are already prepared to move on.

The question is: Can the Jets expect to get much back? Anything more than a late Day 3 pick? Lazard's trade value couldn't be lower.

It likely has more to do with the salary cap. The Jets can't release Lazard, as they would lose more than $6 million in cap space. Trading him would save just under $3.5 million while getting his contract off the books in 2025.

Perhaps the Jets would accept a seventh-rounder to offload his contract. But again, why would a team make that deal after how badly it went last season?

Hopefully, things will work out for Lazard in New York, but the Jets find themselves in a difficult spot less than a year after signing the former Packers wide receiver.
