3 overhyped players Packers fans need to pump the brakes on
Every offseason provides hope. Fans expect big things from the rookie class, second-year players to make a jump, and their team to reach new heights.
The Green Bay Packers made several smart additions in the offseason, but it doesn't guarantee success immediately.
This time of year is perfect for bold predictions, optimism, and hope about the upcoming season. However, a few Packers players are being hyped up a little too much. It's good to have high expectations, but in some cases it can lead to disappointment.
Packers fans may need to temper expectations for these players in 2023.
3. Quay Walker
Quay Walker has the tools to become an excellent starter. The Packers' 2022 first-round pick is an elite athlete with great speed. However, his rookie season showed there was a long way to go.
Walker was regularly slow to react, and his run defense was an issue throughout the season. Getting ejected twice didn't help things, either.
He did impress in coverage. According to Pro Football Reference, quarterbacks earned a passer rating of just 63.6 throwing his way.
However, Walker was far too inconsistent in year one. There were so many areas in need of work, most notably his run defense.
Expecting improvements in year two is understandable, but many are predicting a Pro Bowl-level season from the former first-round pick. It may be a little early for that. Walker can become a quality starter, but he has work to do.
