Best: Packers trade Davante Adams to Raiders

The mistake Brian Gutekunst made was not working out a long-term deal with Davante Adams the summer before. Had the Packers done this sooner, it may never have come to Adams wanting out.

But the trade itself was fantastic.

Adams wanted to leave Green Bay and reunite with his college quarterback Derek Carr in Las Vegas. It put the Packers in a tough position. But as he has done many times, Gutekunst negotiated a great deal for his team.

Las Vegas sent its picks in the first and second rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft to Green Bay.

The Packers used the first to draft Quay Walker and packaged the second in a deal to move up for Christian Watson. Time will tell whether those decisions were the right ones, but there's no denying that the Packers landed a great deal from the Raiders.

Walker had an up-and-down rookie season, but Watson showed star potential in the second half of 2022. He enters this season as the Packers' WR1.

Adams wanted to leave. The Packers didn't have much choice but to trade away their All-Pro wide receiver. But even in that difficult position, Gutekunst still landed two premium draft picks from the Raiders.
