4 standouts and 1 dud from Packers first joint practice with Patriots
Standout: Jordan Love
Jordan Love was tested against a talented Patriots defense on Wednesday, and it was never going to be easy. But he held his own and put in another encouraging practice performance.
"What's particularly promising about Love's performance is that he did it with New England throwing a number of blitzes at him, personnel looks, and late movement from the secondary," writes Paul Bretl of Packers Wire.
According to Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated, Love threw three touchdown passes with no interceptions. He has protected the ball well throughout training camp, which a certain MVP in Green Bay was the master of.
Dud: Royce Newman
Royce Newman's summer has gone from bad to worse, and it would now be a surprise if he made the Packers' 53-man roster. He was a starter only two seasons ago.
"Wow. Royce Newman just got walked all over on and dominated at the line. So much so that Luke Butkus came over and chewed him out," writes Kyle Malzhan of WFRV Local 5.
How can the Packers trust him to protect Jordan Love in the regular season? He has struggled throughout training camp, and it seems impossible for the Packers to keep him on their final 53-man roster at the end of the preseason.
