4 winners (and 1 loser) for Packers in Week 1 win over Bears
No Aaron Rodgers, no problem for the Green Bay Packers. After an offseason of trash talk from Chicago Bears fans, and even some players, the Packers made a statement with a blowout victory at Soldier Field.
Head coach Matt LaFleur called it a "complete" performance from his team but admitted there were several areas to improve. Week 1 performances are never perfect, but the Packers reminded the world how good they are.
There were far more positives than negatives after a convincing divisional win, but not every player enjoyed a strong performance. Here are four winners and one loser for the Packers in Week 1.
Winner: Devonte Wyatt
The Packers needed Devonte Wyatt to make a second-year jump, and it didn't take long for the former first-round pick to make an impact. Wyatt dominated, finishing the game with three tackles, 1.5 sacks, two quarterback hits, and two tackles for loss. One of his sacks resulted in an 11-yard loss for the Bears.
Wyatt also forced a fumble. Together with Kenny Clark, the Packers have an outstanding interior pass rush.
It is exactly what the Packers wanted to see from Wyatt. He showed potential as a backup last season, making a strong case for more playing time. Green Bay moved on from Jarran Reed and Dean Lowry in the spring, and Wyatt is already proving the Packers right for that decision.
