Packers 53-man roster prediction before training camp: Who misses out?
- Predicting the Packers' 53-man roster ahead of training camp
- Rashan Gary and Eric Stokes begin on PUP list
- Five wide receivers, six safeties
Cornerback (5)
Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Corey Ballentine
PUP: Eric Stokes
With Eric Stokes potentially missing the start of the regular season, the Packers could get by with just five cornerbacks. Jaire Alexander and Rasul Douglas will start outside with Keisean Nixon in the slot. Rookie Carrington Valentine can cover in the slot, while Corey Ballentine offers plenty on special teams.
Safety (6)
Darnell Savage, Rudy Ford, Jonathan Owens, Tarvarius Moore, Dallin Leavitt, Anthony Johnson Jr.
Will the Packers keep six safeties? And, if so, who misses out?
We can assume Darnell Savage and Rudy Ford are roster locks. Jonathan Owens and Tarvarius Moore are competing for a starting job. Dallin Leavitt has a good chance of making the roster due to his excellent special teams contributions.
Rookie Anthony Johnson Jr. is a talented player with potential, but can he contribute much in year one? A season on the practice squad may help him, but that would require clearing waivers.
Special teams (3)
Anders Carlson, Pat O'Donnell, Matt Orzech
Training camp is here, and the Packers still haven't brought back Mason Crosby. Rookie Anders Carlson gets the first opportunity to replace Green Bay's all-time leading points scorer. It's down to Carlson to perform well and give the Packers enough confidence to move forward with him this season.
