Aaron Rodgers is trending toward returning to Lambeau Field in 2024

There is no doubt Aaron Rodgers will play again. It could even happen this season. He won't play enough snaps to land the Green Bay Packers a first-round pick, but Rodgers looked pretty comfortable throwing passes in pre-game warmups on Monday Night Football.

Rodgers may be able to return late this season, although it's a long shot. But the way he has attacked his recovery proves he is focused on returning to play for the New York Jets next year.

And that potentially includes a return to Lambeau Field.

Aaron Rodgers is on a collision course with the Packers

The Packers will host one AFC East team in 2024. If the season ended today, it would be the Jets.

Whichever team finishes in the same position as the Packers in the AFC East will head to Lambeau Field next season. Entering Week 10, the Packers and Jets are third in their respective divisions. And there's a good chance it stays that way.

Without Rodgers, the Jets are unlikely to keep pace with the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, but they are good enough to stay ahead of the two-win New England Patriots. In the NFC North, the Packers aren't catching the Detroit Lions and could struggle to keep up with the Minnesota Vikings. Finishing ahead of the Chicago Bears? Now, that is possible.

Rodgers' return to Lambeau Field would feel a lot different to Brett Favre's comeback game in 2009. Favre returned to Green Bay with the rival Minnesota Vikings, aiming to prove a point. Rodgers left Green Bay on good terms and would return with a lot of love for the team that drafted him.

The dream is for a Hall-of-Fame quarterback to play for one team their entire career. Unfortunately, it rarely happens.

Tom Brady returned to Foxboro to beat the New England Patriots in 2021. Peyton Manning played four games against the Indianapolis Colts, including a playoff loss in 2014. Russell Wilson's first game with the Denver Broncos came against the Seattle Seahawks.

Rodgers taking on the Packers in Lambeau Field would be an emotional reunion. Halfway through the regular season, Green Bay hosting New York in 2024 is becoming a realistic possibility.
