6 Packers candidates to be cut going into the summer
By Ryan Heckman
Emanuel Wilson, RB
The running back position is one fans will be watching closely all summer. Josh Jacobs is the obvious no. 1 guy, but Green Bay used a third-round pick on MarShawn Lloyd out of USC. Lloyd will get some run as a rookie, without a doubt, as he comes in with a pass-catching ability and knack to pass block.
Bringing back AJ Dillon all but put the nail in the coffin for Emanuel Wilson. Last year, Green Bay kept three running backs on the roster. So, if that's any indication of what they'll do this year, then Wilson is the likely cut unless four backs are kept. Wilson only played 36 offensive snaps last year, so even in his limited time, it was hard to see what the Packers had in him. They might opt to cut ties and keep the three which they know will certainly help the offense.
Zayne Anderson, S
Boy, did the Packers do some work at safety this offseason, and particularly in the draft. Green Bay selected Javon Bullard in the second round, who comes in as a likely starter next to the big-time free agent signing, Xavier McKinney. But, the Packers also took Evan Williams in the fourth round and Kitan Oladapo in the fifth.
It's clear the Packers wanted to rebuild their safety depth and plan for the future. That's bad news for Zayne Anderson, who played 51 percent of special teams snaps last year.
