Packers draft grades: Round 5

Penn State. Sean Clifford. D. QB

We knew the Packers potentially had interest in Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford after they hosted him for a pre-draft visit. However, drafting him in the fifth round feels like a huge reach. Many draft analysts projected Clifford to go undrafted. But there was a run on quarterbacks, so Green Bay made sure it got its Day 3 target.

The Packers needed a backup to Jordan Love, and Clifford is the frontrunner to be the No. 2 quarterback this season. He spent five seasons at Penn State, playing in 51 games and throwing 86 touchdown passes and only 31 interceptions.

C. WR. Virginia. Dontayvion Wicks

The Packers also hosted Virginia wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks for a pre-draft visit, so it's no surprise they ended up drafting him on Day 3. Wicks provides much-needed depth at wide receiver, and he has potential as Green Bay's WR4 behind Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reed.

Yet again, the Packers landed an outstanding athlete -- Wicks' Relative Athletic Score is 9.17 out of 10. In 2021, Wicks caught 57 passes for 1,203 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 21.1 yards per reception.

The Packers give Jordan Love yet another talented receiver, and they have improved their pass-catching depth in a big way during this draft. And they weren't done yet.
