Packers fans call for Quay Walker to get benched after another poor performance
The Green Bay Packers need better play from Quay Waker.
The former first-round pick is in his third season, and Jeff Hafley's defense was supposed to bring the best out of him. Through two games, we haven't seen enough. Walker continues to look lost against the run, including taking a poor angle and missing a tackle on a 29-yard Jonathan Taylor run.
Walker had three notable mistakes in the Packers' Week 2 win against the Indianapolis Colts: the missed tackle on Taylor, failing to stop Anthony Richardson from picking up a first down on 4th-and-11 late in the fourth quarter, and a dropped interception that would've sealed the game.
Richardson couldn't have placed the ball more perfectly to Walker if he tried. Not only did Walker fail to make the interception, but he tipped the ball in the air and into the hands of Colts receiver Alec Pierce for a first down.
After another disappointing performance, many Packers fans have seen enough.
Packers should consider reducing Quay Walker's snaps after poor performance in Week 2
Not only has Walker made a slow start to the season, but the Packers' other linebackers are outplaying him. It has led to several reactions like this one from The Leap's Peter Bukowski:
He makes a great point. How could the Packers watch the season opener and decide to feature rookie Edgerrin Cooper less?
Eric Wilson only played eight snaps against the Colts, but in that time, he forced a fumble, contributed to a big third-down stop, and then intercepted Richardson in the fourth quarter. Isaiah McDuffie struggled in Week 1 but bounced back against the Colts, which included making a brilliant third-down stop on Taylor in the first quarter.
Walker hasn't played well in the opening two games, and the Packers need much more from a player they selected 22nd overall two years ago.
Wilson deserves more playing time after his performance versus Indianapolis, and Green Bay has to find a way to get Cooper involved. He showed game-changing potential in Week 1.
Walker's inconsistent play is becoming a problem for the Packers, and they may need to consider reducing his snaps moving forward.
