Mason Crosby has played every game for the Green Bay Packers since being drafted in 2007.

He remains available after hitting free agency earlier this offseason. Crosby has indicated that he plans to play this season, but he still awaits an opportunity.

The Packers appear ready to move on from their all-time leading points scorer. In April, they drafted Anders Carlson in the sixth round, the first kicker Green Bay has selected since Crosby 16 years ago. That is perhaps the biggest indication of where the team stands.

Of course, the move doesn't come without risk. Crosby is a proven veteran, and the Packers are moving forward with a rookie. It doesn't matter how well you kick over the summer. The pressure is on when the regular season begins.

Where do Packers fans stand on this? Twitter provided an indication.

Packers fans on Twitter want to move on from Mason Crosby

To get a better indication of where Packers fans stand on Crosby's future, we took to Twitter.

This poll had two simple options: The Packers either move forward with Anders Carlson or bring back Mason Crosby. Which do the fans prefer?

The results were somewhat surprising. Packers fans overwhelmingly voted in favor of Carlson.

All good things come to an end, and the time may be right to move on from Crosby.

While he had a solid 2022 season, booting 86.2% of his field goal attempts and 94.9% of extra-point tries, he lacked power. That was especially noticeable on kickoffs, which rarely flew out of the end zone for a touchback and created opportunities for returners.

Power is no issue for Carlson. He has a big leg, which was evident on the practice field last month.

That's not the concern. It's now up to Carlson to provide consistent play in the regular season. That's the risk the Packers are taking.

But it seems fans are in agreement with their decision.
