Grading Packers offense against Bears in Week 1
By Drew Koch
Week 1 of the 2023 season if officially in the books. But before our attention completely shifts to the Green Bay Packers matchup with the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, let's put a grade on the offense's performance from their Week 1 win over the Chicago Bears.
Green Bay won the game running away, but it wasn't as easy as the 38-20 final makes it seem. Plus, the defense was responsible for six of the Packers' 38 points. Still, putting over 30 points on Da Bears always feels good.
Week 1 represented the first game with Jordan Love's moniker of heir apparent in the rearview mirror. Love is now the unquestioned starting quarterback for the Packers. So it seems only fitting that we begin the grading with him.
Grading Packers offense against Bears in Week 1: Quarterback
The grade for Jordan Love might come off a little harsh to some Packers fans, but I'm tough. In all honesty, Jordan Love put forth a fantastic performance and the only mark against him was the low completion percentage.
Love was 15-of-27 for 245 yards and three touchdowns. A 55.6-percent completion percentage is nothing to sneeze at, especially conisdering he was without his top target, Christian Watson. But if there's one area where Packers fans would like to see improvement heading into Week 2, that would be it.
Otherwise, it was a stellar performance from Love, on the road, against a division rival. Love looked poised in the pocket, spread the wealth around to all his wide receivers, and only took one sack during the game.
Jordan Love also did a very good of protecting the football and converting on third down. The Packers did not turn the ball over and converted on 56-percent of their third down plays. If Love can execute in Week 2 in a similar manner to how the Packers QB did in Week 1, the Atlanta Falcons are going to have problems.
