3 Packers who will definitely be inactive in Week 1 vs. Bears
2. Brenton Cox Jr.
Rookie Brenton Cox Jr. was a standout performer for the Packers in the preseason. He made three tackles, two pass defenses, one quarterback hit, and one tackle for loss across three games, regularly making impressive plays.
There's a reason why the Packers kept six edge rushers. They would have been fine with just five, especially with Rashan Gary returning from injury, but Cox played well enough to earn a spot on the 53.
However, it's unlikely that he will feature in the season opener against the Bears. The benefit of keeping six pass rushers is the tremendous depth it gives the defense, but there are only so many snaps to go around.
Even if Rashan Gary is on a snap count in his first game back from injury, the Packers have more than enough pass-rushing talent with Preston Smith, Lukas Van Ness, Kingsley Enagbare, and Justin Hollins.
There's no doubt that Cox will have a role to play this season. His opportunity will come. But without many injuries in Week 1, the Packers have tough decisions to make about which players don't suit up against the Bears. With great edge rusher depth, it could mean Cox has to wait another week for his debut.
