Jordan Love makes Richard Sherman eat his words after Packers playoff win
Oh, isn't it glorious? Richard Sherman has played down the Green Bay Packers' chances all year ever since they traded Aaron Rodgers. Jordan Love made him eat his words in the first round of the playoffs.
In October, Sherman told Packers fans they are "not getting three in a row" and they "should've shut up and enjoyed the guy you had."
He was, of course, referring to the quarterback change from Rodgers to Love. But he didn't stop there.
Sherman added: "You're on your way to picking top five in the draft. You are probably considering drafting another quarterback."
The Packers were 2-5, having just lost to the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field. To Sherman's defense, things weren't looking great for this team. While fans hoped they could turn things around in the future, any hopes of reaching the playoffs were fading.
Sherman took a victory lap, but the Packers have gone 8-3 since. Top five pick? Nowhere near. The earliest Green Bay will pick in the first round is 25th. Draft a quarterback? No need. The Packers have found another star.
Richard Sherman admits he was wrong about Packers and Jordan Love
Sherman enjoyed the Packers' struggles early in the season. He was a longtime rival of this team during his time with the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, and he took a shot at Green Bay any chance he could earlier in the season.
It's fair to say that Sherman has changed his tune since the Packers' 48-32 win over the Cowboys.
"My goodness," said Sherman. "I must give the Green Bay Packers a ton of credit. And Jordan Love. I said before the season, nobody will fear you. Nobody will fear you going forward without Aaron Rodgers. And way to prove me wrong."
Love threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns, earning a passer rating just below perfect at 157.2. His QBR is the best of all time in a playoff game.
"Jordan Love is the story of this game," said Sherman. "He was making dime passes all over the field. Side-arm, off his back foot, off balance, on the run, in the pocket. He showed off a plethora of skills against the Dallas Cowboys."
Sherman previously said the Packers wouldn't go three in a row at the quarterback position. It's early, but it sure looks like Love is on his way to becoming Green Bay's third-straight franchise quarterback after Rodgers and Brett Favre.
Love leads the Packers into a divisional-round battle against the 49ers, one of Sherman's former teams. Can Green Bay shock the world again?
With Love playing at an MVP level, anything is possible. Win or lose, the Packers have gone three in a row and proven Sherman wrong.
