Packers can only laugh at ridiculous Aaron Rodgers trade demands

Negotiations between the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets in the Aaron Rodgers trade reach an important week.

If a deal isn't in place by the time the Jets hit the clock in the second round on Friday night, it changes things significantly. The Packers would no longer be able to bring back premium draft capital in this year's draft, and would instead have to shift the focus to the 2024 draft.

It's surprising how long the negotiations have taken. Once Rodgers said his intention was to play for the Jets on the Pat McAfee Show, the assumption was it wouldn't take long for the two teams to iron out the details of a trade.

Now just days away from the 2023 NFL Draft, the wait continues.

However, the Packers are right to want good value for the four-time MVP. And it appears the Jets want to get the star quarterback for a discount price.

Packers can only laugh at Jets' demands in Aaron Rodgers trade

In a recent episode of his podcast, NFL Network's Peter Schrager discussed what the Jets don't want to give up in a trade.

According to Schrager, the Jets are unwilling to part ways with their first-round pick, which is understandable. But they are only willing to give away one of their two second-rounders, and also don't want to trade a 2024 first, unless it's a conditional offer.

Here is the full quote from Schrager on the podcast:

"I was told from people not in either building that the Jets were looking to make a trade where it would not involve the first-round pick, it would not involve both of the second-round picks, and it would involve a future first that was conditional."

Peter Schrager of NFL Network

He added that there would need to be "some sort of multiple-season commitment" from Rodgers for that conditional pick to become a first.

The Packers should simply laugh at the Jets' demands.

No team has endured a longer playoff drought than the Jets. They have searched for answers at the quarterback position for years. Since Brett Favre spent one season in New York, starting quarterbacks for the Jets have included Mark Sanchez, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Sam Darnold, and Zach Wilson.

Aaron Rodgers makes the Jets contenders. Not just to make the playoffs, but to win it all.

Trading for Rodgers adds so much value to the Jets, even if only for one season. They want a superstar quarterback but at a bargain price.

No first-rounder. Only one second-rounder. And a 2024 first-rounder will only be sent if certain conditions are met. Those trade terms lean heavily in favor of the Jets.

And it could be even worse. Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported in March that New York wanted to receive a 2025 draft pick from Green Bay if Rodgers only plays one more year.

Perhaps the Packers can also include Jaire Alexander, Christian Watson, Lambeau Field, and Aaron Rodgers' ownership of the Chicago Bears in the trade, too.

If the Jets are unwilling to move from those rumored trade requirements, the Packers should be happy to make them wait.
