Round 3 (91): Max Melton, CB, Rutgers

Brian Gutekunst often doubles down at positions of need in the draft, and it makes sense to do this in a deep cornerback class. Rutgers' Max Melton's performance at the NFL Combine may have upgraded his position to the second round, but he was available at No. 91 in this mock draft simulator, making it an easy choice.

While Green Bay already addressed cornerback with Quinyon Mitchell in the first round, drafting Melton is about more than just improving the depth. He played predominantly on the outside in college, but Melton can become an excellent slot corner in the NFL.

Melton starred at the NFL Combine with a 4.39-second 40-yard dash, 11.4-inch broad jump, and 40.5-inch vertical jump. His numbers were among the best at the cornerback position, earning Melton a Relative Athletic Score of 9.65 out of 10.

This comes after Melton's excellent week of Senior Bowl practices. He held his own against the best receivers and impressed when lined up in the slot.

Gutekunst wants defensive backs who can move around and play multiple positions—Melton can do that. He could be a Day 1 starter in the slot while providing much-needed depth on the outside. A starting trio of Jaire Alexander, Mitchell, and Melton would be a lot of fun.
