The Green Bay Packers would never admit it, but winning a championship wasn't an expectation this season. The focus is evaluating Jordan Love and this young roster before making key decisions in the offseason.

Green Bay made a promising start to the season with victory over the Chicago Bears, but life has become increasingly difficult for this young team, having lost three in a row and four of the previous five games.

The Packers have talent on both sides of the ball, but a lack of experience is hurting them on offense. Evaluations will continue for the remainder of the regular season, but some of the most pressing needs are already becoming crystal clear.

Assuming the Packers stick with Jordan Love in 2024, they need to upgrade the roster around him.

Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts are recent examples of young quarterbacks who made a jump in their second season as a starter and led their teams into the playoffs. The Packers hope Love can do the same, but they need to help him.

Here are five moves Green Bay must make to become contenders with Love.

5. Packers should sell before the trade deadline

Things may get worse before they get better, but that's OK. The Packers must shift their focus to 2024 and beyond, which could lead to tough decisions before the October 31 trade deadline.

Green Bay doesn't often do business before the deadline, but in a losing season, selling makes the most sense. The Packers might not get any bidders for veteran players like Preston Smith, De'Vondre Campbell, or Aaron Jones, but they should listen to any potential incoming offers.

None of those players are likely to net the Packers premium draft capital, but it all helps. Green Bay should identify players not in its long-term plans and make them available. Along with adding a draft pick or two, the Packers could also create cap space.

Green Bay's win-loss record could take a hit this season, especially if it traded a player as important as Aaron Jones. But even a Day 3 draft pick could turn into an eventual starter. The focus is on 2024 and beyond, and the Packers can help their future rosters by selling at this year's trade deadline.
