Packers News: Joe Barry is officially returning to Green Bay in 2024
Former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry didn't take long to find a new job.
The Miami Dolphins are hiring Barry as their new linebackers coach and run game coordinator. While Barry's defense didn't meet expectations in Green Bay, he has an excellent track record as a positional coach, which earned him multiple defensive coordinator jobs.
Barry is an experienced linebackers coach, having previously held that role for three NFL teams. His success as the Los Angeles Rams' linebackers coach helped him land the Packers' defensive coordinator job.
Barry won't be part of the Packers' defensive staff in 2024 but will return to Lambeau Field.
Joe Barry's Dolphins will visit Packers in 2024
The Packers will host nine games at Lambeau in 2024. One of their opponents? You guessed it—the Miami Dolphins.
Green Bay takes on the AFC East team that finished in the same position as the Packers in their division. It was almost Aaron Rodgers' New York Jets, but the Packers' late-season winning run moved them into second position in the NFC North, which is where the Dolphins finished in the AFC East.
Barry will return as part of the opposing coach staff. He won't be calling plays but will prepare the linebackers for the Packers' offense and help build the game plan to stop the run.
Aaron Jones versus Joe Barry is a matchup coming soon to Green Bay. Barry's defenses struggled to stop the run—the Packers allowed 128.3 rushing yards per game this season, ranking 28th in the NFL.
It was time for the Packers to make a defensive coordinator change, but it's great to see Barry land another job in the NFL. The players loved him, and he is a great person and an excellent positional coach.
Hopefully, Barry has a successful run in Miami—just not when he returns to Lambeau.
