Do the Packers only have one Top 100 player in 2023?
Do the Green Bay Packers have only one Top 100 player?
If going solely off a list compiled by Pete Prisco of CBS Sports, it appears so. Prisco's list has just one member of the Packers cracking the Top 100, Jaire Alexander.
Prisco ranked Alexander as the 21st overall player on his list. He wrote: "He continues to be an outstanding cover player. He had five picks last season for the Packers."
This is not super insightful or lengthy, but it is accurate and that is what counts.
Alexander's five interceptions last year equaled his career total coming into the season. Also worth mentioning is the 14 pass defenses and 63.7 quarterback rating allowed on passes in Alexander's direction.
Pro Football Focus graded Alexander's 2022 as 80.3, which would qualify as good by their grading system. PFF's grades can be incredibly flawed at times, but they seemed to nail this right on the head. Anything less than good would be an insult for Alexander's performance last season.
It was a much needed healthy season from Alexander. The two-time Pro Bowl corner was limited to just four games in 2021 due to a shoulder injury.
Returning to form and not missing a step is a welcome sight for the Packers defense. If Green Bay is going to remain competitive within the division and the conference as a whole, they are going to need franchise cornerstone caliber players to play at a certain level and that is what they got out of Alexander in 2022.
Other Packers just missing the Top 100 rankings
Four other members of the Packers did receive "Honorable Mention" status, including Aaron Jones, Rashan Gary, Elgton Jenkins, and Christian Watson.
There is a very good chance that a few of these players find their way to move past the Honorable Mention designation and into the Top 100 this time next year.
Until then, it is Alexander, and only Alexander, who finds himself among being named as a Top 100 player in the eyes of Prisco.
