It took a little bit of time last season for Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love to get settled into his new starting role. But once he became comfortable, Love was able to show why the Packers selected him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, even if that made then-starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers a bit miffed.

After a rocky 2-5 start, some were questioning the trajectory of the Packers' organization. Love had shown flashes but was yet to really string together a run of starts that showed meaningful progress. But it was the final 10 games of the season that he was able to operate the offense and lead the Packers to a 7-3 record and a postseason berth.

Love would complete 68.7% of his passes for an average of 266.7 yards per game with a touchdown to interception ratio of 21-3. It was this stretch that validated his position as Green Bay's starter moving forward and instilling hope for the future of the Packers' franchise.

Packers understandably have high hopes for Jordan Love in 2024

The expectations for Love this season are lofty, and rightfully so. Love was able to validate the decision to hand the keys of the franchise over to him and he rewarded that decision with outstanding play over the final 10 games of the season.

Now, Love should be expected to take the next step forward as a quarterback, going from operating the offense to commanding it. That line between operator and commander is what makes the difference between guys you win with and guys you win because of. Love was able to show some of the abilities that are routinely seen in the latter group, and a second consecutive offseason preparing as Green Bay's starting quarterback should only make him more comfortable in the offense and allow him to flourish as a passer.

A major factor in Love's development and progress for this upcoming season will be the influence of Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. LaFleur's offensive scheme is a common one seen across the NFL and is known for making a quarterback's job easier. This means putting Love in position to succeed as a passer and as a leader of the team.

Do not be surprised if the combination of Love and LaFleur are able to come out firing and put the league on notice. They are still flying under the radar somewhat when it comes to quarterback-head coach combos, but that should not last much longer.

Love and LaFleur appear to be the next duo that could carry a franchise for a long period of time. It all starts with this upcoming season and Love blossoming into a definitive franchise quarterback, a transformation that began last season and should continue into 2024.
