Rashan Gary contract news finally gives Packers something to celebrate
The Green Bay Packers finally got it done.
Rashan Gary continues to prove why he's one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, and the Packers have signed him to a massive contract extension that ensures he isn't going anywhere.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Packers have agreed terms with Gary on a four-year extension worth $96 million in new money. He receives a signing bonus of $34.64 million.
This is huge news for Gary and the Packers, finally giving fans something to celebrate.
Packers News: Rashan Gary signs monster contract extension
With this move, the Packers have checked off the top priority on their to-do list. Gary was set to hit free agency in the offseason, and Green Bay had to ensure it worked out a new deal with its premier pass rusher.
This move keeps Gary under contract through the 2027 season.
Gary returned from a torn ACL this season and required no time to get back to his dominant best. The former first-round pick has made 4.5 sacks and eight quarterback hits in the Packers' opening seven games.
Things might be falling apart for the Packers this season, but that's by no fault of Gary's.
The Packers tend to get deals like this done early. Last year, they signed Elgton Jenkins to a multi-year extension during the regular season. They've done the same with other star players over the years, including David Bakhtiari in 2020. One of the few exceptions was Davante Adams, who they ended up losing the following offseason.
Green Bay has a lot of work to do between now and the start of the 2024 season to upgrade this roster, but Gary is a building block.
With Gary getting the long-term deal he deserves, Packers fans finally have something to celebrate.
