Any hopes of an Aaron Rodgers trade between the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets before the 2023 NFL Draft are quickly fading.

Almost a month after Aaron Rodgers announced his intention to play for the Jets, a deal still hasn't been agreed.

We are now just two weeks away from the 2023 NFL Draft, and it appears no deal is imminent.

ESPN's Adam Schefter provides Aaron Rodgers trade update

ESPN's Adam Schefter provided an update on the Aaron Rodgers trade on his podcast. Schefter said there has been "little, if any" communication between the two teams of late.

"The trade that everybody seems to be waiting to get done is not any closer to happening right now as the draft draws closer," said Schefter.

Only two weeks away from the start of the 2023 NFL Draft, this is notable.

Schefter added: "While it looks like this is a situation that could heat up and escalate as the draft kicks off, there are no assurances that will happen either. Green Bay seems quite content to wait until after the draft to make a trade."

Something has to give, but trade talks appear to have hit a roadblock with both sides not seeming to move on their current stance.

Why Aaron Rodgers trade update is concerning for Packers

Schefter said the Packers are "content" to wait until after the draft, but that's a mistake.

With so many areas of need on both sides of the ball, the Packers need as much draft capital as they can get. Even if the Jets refuse to give away their first-rounder this year, landing a second-rounder and conditional pick in 2024 would work just fine.

Entering the draft with multiple seconds would put the Packers in a strong position. They could sit back and make three top 50 picks or use the added flexibility to trade.

If the Jets aren't willing to give the Packers what they want in this year's draft, why would their stance change in 2024?

Let's be clear: New York needs this trade just as much, if not more, than Green Bay. However, the Jets would be far happier waiting until after the draft as they would get to make their selections at No. 13, No. 42, and No. 43.

Picks in 2024 will likely be lower in the draft order.

The Packers need to get those draft selections now. If the deal doesn't get done before or during the draft, it's bad news for Green Bay.
