While going all-in at the end of the Green Bay Packers' championship window with Aaron Rodgers, the team pushed money into future years.

The result? Limited salary cap space. It has been an issue for the Packers in recent years. General manager Brian Gutekunst has needed to find ways to create cap space, including contract restructures and new long-term deals.

Gutekunst is the master of in-season additions. His best work was signing Rasul Douglas off the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad in October 2021. Douglas is now a starting cornerback for the Packers.

Do the Packers have enough cap space to make any more moves in the coming weeks and months?

How much cap space do the Packers have?

According to Over The Cap, the Packers currently have $16.57 million. They rank 10th in the NFL for cap space, with more than enough room to make some in-season signings.

The Packers are unlikely to need to restructure any more contracts, but they can create more cap space by signing Rashan Gary to a contract extension.

Gary is entering the final year on his deal. The Packers need to work out a long-term contract with their star pass rusher, and they could also lower his 2023 cap hit by doing so.

What are the Packers' top five cap hits in 2023?

Here are the Packers' five biggest cap hits in 2023:

  • David Bakhtiari ($21.34 million)
  • Kenny Clark ($12.91 million)
  • Rashan Gary ($10.89 million)
  • Jaire Alexander ($10.76 million)
  • Aaron Jones ($8.2 million)

Unsurprisingly, five of the Packers' most important players have the biggest cap hits this season.

How much dead money are Packers paying in 2023?

The Packers are paying a massive $57.14 million in dead money in 2023. Most of that is on Aaron Rodgers' contract. Even though he now plays for the New York Jets, the Packers will pay $40.31 million on their salary cap this season. Rodgers' contract will come off the books next year.

Adrian Amos also plays for the Jets, but the Packers will pay $7.95 million in dead money. They will pay $3.01 million for Dean Lowry's contract.

The Packers are paying a lot of money on their 2023 salary cap for players no longer on the roster.
