Packers: Season-long stat predictions for skill position players in 2023
The Green Bay Packers have arguably been the NFL's most stable franchise over the past 30 years. While most teams scramble to find a starting quarterback, Packers fans have been able to enjoy Hall-of-Fame-level play from back-to-back quarterbacks.
For the first time since Aaron Rodgers took over for Brett Favre, the Packers will have an unknown at starting quarterback to open a season. Quarterback isn't the only position on the team with uncertainty.
The offseason entailed heavy roster turnover at tight end and receiver as the Packers try to retool around a young roster. Which players will perform, and who could struggle during a transformative year for Green Bay?
Packers quarterbacks
Jordan Love: 63% completion percentage, 3,700 yards, 31 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 300 rushing yards, 3 rushing touchdowns, 3 fumbles lost
Sean Clifford: -4 rushing yards
For the first time in 15 years, a quarterback not named Aaron Rodgers will be the Packers' week one starter. Instead, former first-round pick Jordan Love will open the season as a starter for the first time in his career. Despite his lack of experience, expectations for Love will be far higher than that of a typical first-time starter, as he's sat behind and learned from Rodgers for three full seasons.
This projection would likely place Love amongst the top third of the league in passing yards and touchdowns while also acknowledging that he may struggle with turnovers, especially early in the season. While this might be a lofty goal for Love, he's shown command of the offense both throughout the preseason and training camp. Packers fans should have high hopes for their new QB1.
Fifth-round rookie Sean Clifford impressed during preseason action to win the backup quarterback job. However, if all goes well in Green Bay, he won't have to attempt a pass in 2023. The Packers will hope to get him on the field in victory formation to close out some comfortable wins.
