Packers can solve kicking problem with cut candidate from Aaron Rodgers' Jets

The Green Bay Packers addressed the backup quarterback situation by surprisingly trading for Malik Willis. Now, they have another issue at kicker.

After the Packers' preseason finale, head coach Matt LaFleur hinted at looking for outside help at both positions. He wasn't lying about the backup quarterback situation, so we can probably take his word at kicker, too.

However, while it's easy to search the waiver wire for an upgrade, finding an available kicker who offers more consistency than Anders Carlson or Greg Joseph is another thing.

There is one name to watch, and he is a cut candidate from the New York Jets.

Packers could get some help at kicker from Aaron Rodgers' Jets

Maybe Aaron Rodgers' team can help out the Packers. The Jets currently have two kickers on their roster: Greg Zuerlein and Austin Seibert. Presumably, Zuerlein is their first choice, which means they will likely release Seibert.

The former fifth-round pick has spent time on six teams since entering the league, but his numbers are solid. In his NFL career, Seibert has converted 45 of 56 field goals (80.4 percent). It's not a bad record, especially considering he only had a full-time kicking job once, which was in his rookie season with the Cleveland Browns. That season, he converted 86.2 percent.

Seibert has enjoyed a perfect preseason for the Jets, making all five of his field-goal attempts, including a long of 52 yards.

"I think Seibert is better than a lot of kickers that are employed in the NFL right now," said Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

Saleh might be right, and that could include the two kickers battling for the Packers' job. Neither Anders Carlson nor Greg Joseph have been consistent enough at camp—Carlson likely has the edge but missed a 32-yarder with his final attempt in the preseason.

The Packers will likely explore free-agent options, and Seibert may sit at the top of the list.
