3 standouts and 2 duds from Packers loss to Falcons in Week 2
By Drew Koch
Dud: Joe Barry
I'm not sure if there's one player on the defensive side of the ball that any of the Green Bay faithful can point to and say, "He's the reason we lost!" But I would assume that plenty of Packers fans will be pointing the finger at defensive coordinator Joe Barry.
Barry's defense, which looked very good against the Chicago Bears in Week 1, looked very bad against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2. The Packers allowed the Falcons to run 78 plays to their 47, and the Falcons controlled the clock for 36 minutes and 15 seconds.
The Falcons racked up 446 total yards and only 235 of that came threw the air. The Falcons ran for over 200 yards on the Packers defense, and during their final drive of the fourth quarter, Atlanta ran 12 plays and milked over five minutes off the clock.
Now, outside of Quay Walker, the Packers defense as a whole was pedestrian at best. Both Walker and Jaire Alexander dropped potential game-changing interceptions. Alexander's would have gone for six.
The Green Bay Packers defense has a lot to clean up before the New Orleans Saints come to town next week. Joe Barry's seat might be getting warm if he doesn't figure things out.
