While the Green Bay Packers' championship window with Aaron Rodgers was open, the conversation was often about which players the team could trade for.

It's a different story this summer. Now, the focus is on who the Packers could trade away.

And understandably so. The Packers could compete for a playoff berth in the wide-open NFC North, but they are unlikely to challenge for a Super Bowl this season. Green Bay's focus is on building long-term around new starting quarterback Jordan Love.

Part of that could include trading away talented players. If the Packers get a fair offer and it's the right time to move on, why not?

It wouldn't be surprising if the Packers traded away a star player this summer.

Packers analyst names AJ Dillon as possible trade candidate in 2023

AJ Dillon is entering the final year of his rookie contract. If the Packers know they are unlikely to re-sign him next offseason, why not listen to potential trade offers?

Andy Herman of the Pack-A-Day podcast listed potential trade candidates for the Packers, and he included Dillon.

"I think it would take an injury to another team's starting running back," Herman said. "They look at AJ Dillon's tape and say, 'Hey, when this guy actually gets to be the guy, he's been pretty darn good.' It's when he has to be the secondary guy and just get a handful of snaps here and there and doesn't get into a rhythm, that's where he's maybe not quite as good."

Herman makes some great points, and it's well worth listening to the entire podcast.

He believes that trading Dillon could make sense if the Packers know it's probably his final season and a backup running back like Tyler Goodson impresses over the summer.

Again, this is where things differ from recent seasons. If Aaron Rodgers was still in Green Bay, there's no way trading an offensive playmaker would be a smart decision.

But at the beginning of a new era with Love, the Packers have to think beyond just 2023. They are building for the next few seasons. If Dillon isn't in their plans after this season and they can acquire a draft pick or two for him now, it's something to think about.
