Packers: Winners and losers from the 2023 NFL Draft
Loser: Josiah Deguara
Fourth-year Josiah Deguara entered the draft atop the Packers' tight end depth chart. While it was always likely Green Bay would use a premium pick at the position, it ended up taking two tight ends on the draft's second night.
It leaves Deguara, who has been a backup on offense throughout his career, in a tough spot. If new additions Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft earn significant snaps early on, where does it leave Deguara? He could be relegated to TE4.
Deguara has played more offensive snaps than Tyler Davis, but Davis is a core special teams player, which could make him more valuable to the Packers.
Deguara can take on various roles on offense, but he could be replaced by Kraft, who offers similar versatility.
Had Green Bay missed out on the premier tight ends in the class, Deguara could've been in line for an increase in snaps this season. Even if the Packers had drafted Musgrave or Kraft, Deguara would likely see a promotion from the previous three years.
They are rookies, so it's possible Deguara ends up starting early in the season. But the Packers have drafted two tight ends in the opening three rounds. Deguara may struggle for snaps again this season.
