Pat McAfee admits he was wrong about Packers GM Brian Gutekunst

Pat McAfee was critical of Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst throughout the Aaron Rodgers trade negotiations.

McAfee had harsh words to say about Gutekunst, even questioning whether he was a "smart person."

However, to McAfee's credit, he held his hands up during Monday's episode of the Pat McAfee Show and praised Gutekunst for the bold decisions he made.

Gutekunst certainly took a risk when he traded up for Jordan Love in 2020. It was a franchise-altering move that eventually pushed Aaron Rodgers out the door. The Love pick will forever be tied to Gutekunst's legacy.

It's early days, but Love is looking like he can become the guy in Green Bay, having led his team to a famous victory over the defending-champion Kansas City Chiefs in primetime.

McAfee wasn't a fan of Gutekunst's decision to trade Rodgers, and even before then, he questioned the Love pick. To McAfee's credit, he has changed his mind with Love and the Packers showing their potential in recent weeks.

"Hey, Gutekunst, I certainly questioned the moves. I certainly questioned the motives. I thought this guy wants to build his own ego, build his own hype, build his own legacy," said McAfee.

"They're doing it. They beat the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football, and their schedule gets easier down the road here," said McAfee. "I, personally, have to say, alright, seems like Gutey knew what they were doing."

So many analysts and fans double down on their takes, even when they don't go as they predicted. McAfee may still ultimately be proven right. The Packers are playing well, but they still need to prove themselves over a sustained period.

But McAfee has seen enough from Love to be confident in him moving forward.

"The future is so bright -- it is the sun -- in Green Bay. Somehow, this Packers organization has gone from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers and, now seemingly, this dude," said McAfee.

It's hard to disagree. Love has played outstanding football over the past month, especially in the past two games.

Love has led Green Bay to victories over the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs in consecutive weeks, completing 69.1 percent of his passes for 536 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions, earning a passer rating of 121.9. And that's against two of the best teams in football.

The Packers are proving a lot of people wrong. Many (mostly Bears fans) still don't want to admit that Jordan Love may be the guy in Green Bay, but McAfee deserves credit for being open to changing his stance.
