Raiders could help Packers by keeping star quarterback away from division rival

The Green Bay Packers enter 2024 among the NFC's top contenders alongside the division-rival Detroit Lions.

However, the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings may have a say in the battle for divisional dominance. Both teams face uncertainty at the quarterback position but could draft their future starter.

Chicago holds the power with the No. 1 overall pick. It's more complicated for the Vikings, who likely need to trade up from No. 11 overall to land Kirk Cousins' replacement, should they move on from him. LSU's Jayden Daniels is a name to watch.

Daniels is one of the top prospects in the class, and some analysts even believe he is the best quarterback.

"The data and the tape both showing that Jayden Daniels the best QB in college football in '23," writes ESPN's Louis Riddick.

The last thing the Packers need is for the Vikings to land one of the top quarterback prospects in the class. Fortunately, the Las Vegas Raiders may be able to help.

Raiders could do Packers a favor by keeping top QB prospect away from NFC North

There's a good chance Daniels goes inside the top three, which brings the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots into play. Another team to watch is the Las Vegas Raiders.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Raiders are expected to release veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. And that's where things get interesting.

"New head coach Antonio Pierce wants to be aggressive in landing a new QB, and owner Mark Davis grilled GM candidates during the search process on how to trade up from No. 13 to get one," reports Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo of NFL.com.

And that's where things get even more interesting. As the report points out, Pierce has previously worked with Daniels.

"It's no secret Pierce has a relationship with Jayden Daniels, whom he recruited to Arizona State, and could be interested in a reunion," the NFL.com report continues.

The Vikings may already struggle to move up high enough to draft Daniels. The Commanders and Patriots need quarterbacks but could miss out on Caleb Williams. Even if a team is willing to trade, Minnesota will need to compete with Las Vegas.

The Packers don't want to see the Vikings pair a potential franchise quarterback with star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Ideally, the best QBs in the class will stay out of the NFC entirely.

Hopefully, the Raiders can help out.
