Niners give Packers what they want in Aaron Rodgers trade

Aaron Rodgers will get traded at some point, almost certainly to the New York Jets. But if the Jets are unwilling to give away a guaranteed first-round pick, maybe another team will.

The San Francisco 49ers have made big trades in recent years. Maybe they will make another for Rodgers. With Brock Purdy recovering from a significant injury and Trey Lance facing an uncertain future in San Francisco, could the Niners turn to the player they should've drafted in 2005?

There's a reason why the 49ers have so few picks in this year's draft. They sent picks in the second, third, and fourth rounds to the Carolina Panthers for Christian McCaffrey. They traded their first-rounder as part of the big move to get Trey Lance two years ago.

They are willing to give away premium draft picks for star players.

For the Niners to have any chance of landing Rodgers, they would need to make an offer the Packers can't refuse and one the Jets are unwilling to match. Here, they send one of their third-rounders from this year's class along with a guaranteed first in 2024. No conditions. A first, no matter what.

If the 49ers made this offer to the Packers and the Jets didn't match it, how could Brian Gutekunst turn it down?
