It was not the preseason Sean Clifford was hoping for. The Green Bay Packers traded for Malik Willis, and Clifford found himself without a team for about 24 hours.

As expected, Clifford cleared waivers and the Packers re-signed their former fifth-round pick to the practice squad. While that may not be considered news to anyone following the team, Clifford revealed he had a role that very few people knew about last season.

Clifford, the second-year pro out of Penn State, is now one of the player hosts on WDUZ 107.5 in Green Bay, a show he will host every other week, splitting duties with Karl Brooks. Clifford made his debut Wednesday night, talking some football and sharing many laughs with the Packers fans who came to the live broadcast.

Sean Clifford helps design plays and is the Packers' emergency long snapper

As a backup quarterback, Clifford spends a lot of time watching film and works with head coach Matt LaFleur, offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich, and quarterbacks coach Tom Clements on the game plan.

Clifford revealed that his goal is to get one play into the game plan from something he saw on film, which this last weekend, came to fruition on Malik Willis' touchdown pass to Dontayvion Wicks.

However, the biggest reveal from Clifford in his radio show debut, was that on last year's team, he had quite an important special teams role: the emergency long snapper.

Clifford discussed how he earned the role of JV quarterback when he was a high school freshman. The varsity coach came looking for a long snapper, and Sean wanted to contribute. He became the long snapper and varsity backup quarterback at that time and went on to have a successful high school and college career. Clifford stated he still goes out and does some snapping with special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia to fill in if called upon in an absolute worst-case scenario.

Among other topics, Clifford revealed that he had some other offers, but after talking to GM Brian Gutekunst when he got cut, he had every intention of returning to Green Bay and turned down other practice squad offers. Clifford also "revealed" he is a night owl, loves Chris Stapleton, and his favorite show is Friends.

I don't know how far in trouble the team would have to be to call upon the practice squad quarterback to be their long snapper. However, knowing that the team does have a backup plan to their backup plan is a good feeling.
