Top 5 NFC North edge rushers in 2023 ranked
3. Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit Lions
Aidan Hutchinson has the chance to be special. The 2022 second overall pick made a fast start for the Lions.
Hutchinson led the Lions in sacks with 9.5, and he also made 15 quarterback hits, three pass defenses, three interceptions, and 52 tackles.
After an impressive first season, Hutchinson was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team and finished second in the voting for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year behind New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner.
According to Pro Football Focus, Hutchinson's 53 pressures were the most of any rookie last season.
Hutchinson achieved all of this as a rookie in a Lions defense that struggled for most of the year. Now imagine how good he can become in year two. It's a scary thought for the rest of the NFC North.
He did it all. Hutchinson isn't a one-dimensional player. Yes, he made plenty of sacks, finishing just short of double-digits. But he also provided plenty in run defense. Crucially, Hutchinson showed an ability to force turnovers with three interceptions.
Expectations are high for Hutchinson entering year two. If he reaches his potential, it won't be long before he becomes the best edge rusher in the NFC North.
