Proposed Packers trade is effective insurance at critical position

Green Bay could do worse to address a major roster question mark...

Not every NFL roster is going to be perfect, and that's certainly the case with the Green Bay Packers. They did invest a 2024 first-round pick in Jordan Morgan, but until now, he's not been asked to play his college position of left tackle.

All of a sudden, Morgan is thrust into duty after Rasheed Walker's departure in free agency. Considering Morgan has only played 51 snaps in the key role of protecting Jordan Love's blind side to date, that's quite a leap of faith by Green Bay to install him there virtually unchallenged.

Joe Thomas' recent ringing endorsement of Morgan notwithstanding, one unique trade option proposed by FanSided's Jake Beckman could be just what the Packers need.

Walker Little named as ideal Packers trade target to challenge (or simply back up) Jordan Morgan

The Jacksonville Jaguars are pretty set at both their tackle spots, so that makes Walker Little an easy target to be moved. Here's what Beckman had to say in his write-up:

"If they wanted to get someone to compete with and/or back up Morgan, they could ask the Jaguars about Walker Little’s availability. The Jags drafted him in the second round of the 2021 draft, but he’s never really clicked as a starter. Last year, Cole Van Lanen (who was drafted by the Packers in 2021) ended up taking his job. If the Jags want to get something for Little before he becomes a free agent after 2026, they should be able to figure something out with Green Bay."

Now granted, this was from several days ago, but Jacksonville preemptively extended Little before Cole Van Lanen's emergence. Little is therefore on the books for about $14.5 million in 2026 if he stays in Jacksonville.

Green Bay could nab Little on what amounts to, in essence, a two-year, $25 million deal or thereabouts, per OverTheCap.com. If the Jags wait until the post-June 1 deadline, they can save about $4.7 million more than if they executed the Little trade prior to then.

It'd be kind of semantically humorous to go from Rasheed Walker to Walker Little at left tackle. Also quite funny that Van Lanen is a Green Bay native who began his career with the Pack, only to pop off in Duval County.

All indications are that the Packers believe in Morgan. And look, Little is coming off a bad season (nine sacks allowed), so this would be a classic case of buying low on Green Bay's part.

The only issue is, if Morgan doesn't have someone like Little behind him and he goes down with an unfortunate injury, there's no one to really turn to. Darrian Kinnard would be next up on the depth chart, along with Travis Glover. Kinnard played almost exclusively at right tackle.

Gone are the days when five-position versatile Elgton Jenkins could just kick out to left tackle and hold it down whenever it was necessary. Ain't no Elgtons walking through that door anymore.

Little isn't some world beater at left tackle, yet he would likely be an upgrade over Kinnard and could serve as a swing tackle candidate/backup to both Morgan and Zach Tom.

As much as Micah Parsons was missed down the stretch of last season, Tom's partially torn patellar tendon was a big loss in the trenches. In fact, Morgan missed three games with a knee injury in 2025 and dealt with a nagging shoulder issue as a rookie.

Still only 27 years old, Little would be a sound, short-term investment who has an easy out in his contract in 2027 as it is. Not a bad trade flier for Green Bay to take in exchange for a late Day 3 draft pick.
