For the first and likely only time in his career, Aaron Rodgers will square off with the Green Bay Packers when his new team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, welcomes his former team to Acrisure Stadium for the league's Week 8 Sunday Night Football matchup on October 26.
As one would imagine, there are several storylines at play here.
First, foremost, and most obviously, you've got Rodgers facing the team with which he spent 18 years and earned 10 Pro Bowl nods, five total All-Pro selections, four regular-season NFL MVPs, the lone Super Bowl ring of his career, and a Super Bowl MVP trophy. That title win, of course, came against none other than the Steelers in Super Bowl 45.
Given the way Rodgers' tenure in Green Bay ended, of course, this could easily be viewed as somewhat of a revenge game on both sides, which certainly adds a little luster, as does the fact that, with a win, the 41-year-old will become just the fifth quarterback to defeat all 32 current franchises.
Now, one would think that with all of this going on, nothing extra would need to be done to add any intrigue to what will undoubtedly be one of the most-watched games of the entire season.
Steelers to debut their ugly new throwback uniforms for Aaron Rodgers vs. Packers showdown
But the Steelers apparently don't agree, as team president Art Rooney II recently announced that they'll be donning all-new alternate uniforms to mirror what the team wore in its inaugural season in 1933, when the franchise was known as the Pittsburgh Pirates.
"We're excited to unveil our new throwback uniforms, which not only pay tribute to the origins of the Steelers franchise but also to the deep connection we have to our hometown of Pittsburgh," Rooney said in a statement. "It's especially fitting that we'll debut these uniforms on Sunday night, October 26, when we play the Green Bay Packers -- another franchise in the league with a long and rich history."
Here's a look.

Look, I'm all for teams wanting to pay tribute to the past, and perhaps the Packers should feel honored that the Steelers are wanting to break these out that night in October.
But come on. Save these for a game against the Cleveland Browns or some other old-school AFC opponent.
There's been no word yet on what Green Bay will be wearing that night, but if I'm watching the Packers play the Steelers, I simply want to see the classic unis (no, that doesn't mean throwback) and the iconic gold helmets for Green Bay and the iconic black helmets for Pittsburgh.
And one has to wonder if Rodgers feels the same. Unless both teams make the Super Bowl, which seems unlikely, he gets one crack at the Packers in his lifetime, and has to do so in beige pants.
