The Pittsburgh Steelers officially added former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers a few weeks ago. The Steelers have already been adding more help to their team for him than the Packers ever did for Rodgers when he was in Green Bay.
Before Rodgers had officially signed with the Steelers, Pittsburgh traded for D.K. Metcalf, giving Rodgers one heck of a weapon when he did eventually sign in the Steel City. Now, on the other side of the ball, the Steelers have continued to ensure that they'll be competitive with Rodgers under center for them.
Pittsburgh made waves on Monday by working out a trade for former Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey. That gives the Steelers defense tremendous help in their secondary, and they also acquired Jonnu Smith in the deal, providing Rodgers with another weapon to throw to as well.
Steelers are doing something for Aaron Rodgers that Packers rarely did
The Packers never really made huge moves when Rodgers was their quarterback. Simply having him on the team meant that Green Bay was a Super Bowl contender every year and that was enough for the front office. While Rodgers did lead the team to a Super Bowl title early in his starting career, the Packers never went back afterwards so, yes, it feels like they could have been more aggressive and tried to supply their All-Pro quarterback with more help, whether it was on offense or defense.
The Steelers are in a much tougher division now than the Packers were then though so clearly, they're trying to do whatever they can to compete. With a consistent head coach in Mike Tomlin, an improved quarterback situation, and now an improved defense, the Steelers could be a sneaky good team in 2025.
While it's frustrating to see other teams try to build around Rodgers, this is a one-and-done for both the Steelers and the long-time Packers signal-caller. They're clearly trying to give him as much as possible to try and swing for the fences. That was never the case for Green Bay with how long Rodgers spent there and how many opportunities the Packers had to try and win another title with him in town.
We'll see if these aggressive moves pay off for Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers.
